According to findings in the 2021 Gartner Market Guide to APIA, over the past 2 years, a growing number of businesses have recognized that switching to a P2P suite just doesn’t work for them. But, of course, this is a fact DataServ has known all along.

So how do buyers determine whether they would be better served by an APIA solution rather than a P2P solution?

There are a few groups that would be best served by an APIA vendor. Do any of these scenarios ring true for you?
  1. Has your business already spent a substantial amount of money on P2P suites, but still cannot process 100% of your invoice volume?
  2. Do a high percentage of your business's invoices have a PO?
  3. Are your purchasing processes sufficient?
  4. Are your payment processes sufficient?

If you fall into one of those categories, we have good news for you! You don’t need a full P2P suite. Why? Because it's overkill. You've already invested in valuable controls (usually from your ERP). Now, you need something in the middle that will allow you to stick with your current purchasing process.

Why buy a solution that attempts to solve "everything" when your only problem is the AP portion? Instead, buy a solution that integrates seamlessly with what you already have and solves your problem with less interruption and a more robust solution. Reduce the time you spend on processing POs so you can spend that time improving other processes.

Talk to your purchasing and AP teams to see what they need. If your purchasing and payment processes are sufficient, APIA is a great solution for you. It’s a solution that starts where purchasing leaves off and payment picks up. Your vendor sends the invoices for your purchases or services then the APIA solution digitizes them, routes them accordingly, and finally sends them along to your ERP for payment.

Avoid the Jack of All Trades

APIA solutions offer focused expertise. We have heard from too many clients who were disappointed when their P2P suite promised them everything but failed to deliver at the level they expected. They promise to do everything but end up not doing anything well.

It’s not because they don’t want to offer the best. It's just difficult to spread resources appropriately across so many functions.

Imagine paying top dollar for 12 different "products" in the name of streamlining your system. Would you be satisfied receiving implementation services from a team wearing 12 different hats while trying to troubleshoot integration with your current system? Would you be pleased with a support center that is trying to field issues concerning 12 separate products? We don’t think you should settle for anything less than 100% of a solution provider’s attention, service, and ongoing support.

Don't be fooled by slick presentations and promises that sound too good to be true. The P2P market is not for everybody.
