DataServ is proud to present six educational breakout sessions at The Institute of Financial Operations Fusion 2014 Conference, May 5-8 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Dallas, Texas, the first of which, titled Outsourcing or Shared Services for Your AP Function: Which is Right for You?, will occur on May 6 at 10am. This session will be conducted by Scott Gilley, the Director of Shared Services Accounting at Emerson Process Management (EPM), and Jeff Haller, DataServ’s Managing Partner and CEO. The long-simmering debate among financial professionals about whether outsourcing or shared services makes more sense when it comes to account payable will be discussed in depth.
As Scott will illustrate, you don’t always have to exclusively choose one option or the other. A hybrid solution can make sense in many cases, and he has utilized just that approach at EPM. For example, Scott outsources the majority of mailroom functions (mail receipt, scanning, optical character recognition, and quality assurance) to DataServ. Outsourcing scale-sensitive costs like these makes sense from both a cost and efficiency perspective. His shared services group focuses on higher-value added activities through the DataServ AP automation workflow solution across multiple businesses and locations.
Scott and Jeff will discuss the criteria and metrics you should consider when faced with the outsourcing/shared services decision in your purchase to pay process and what facts would lead you in one direction or the other. Some of these metrics include number of invoices processed per person, accuracy, quality, cost per invoice, and client satisfaction.
